Memphis stays alive in NIT with comeback win

MEMPHIS, TN (AP) � Dajuan Wagner scored 19 points, and Scooter McFadgon had 16 of his 18 in the second half to lead Memphis to a 79-73 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday for a second straight berth in the NIT semifinals.

Memphis (25-9) will play Temple on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. The Tigers beat the Owls 64-54 this season.

McFadgon went 6-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-8 on 3-pointers, and keyed the Tigers' second-half comeback.

The Golden Eagles (27-7) led by as many as 10 points in the first half and were up 70-69 with 2� minutes to play. But Memphis scored the next nine points to lead 78-70 with 27 seconds left.

Antonio Burks scored 15 for Memphis, while Chris Massie had 14 points and 18 rebounds.

Damien Kinloch led Tennessee Tech with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and had a team-high eight rebounds. Cameron Crisp scored 14, while Joey Westmoreland added 12.

Tennessee Tech led 36-30 at halftime thanks to a pressing defense. Memphis committed 11 turnovers and shot only 35 percent.

The Golden Eagles got off to a poor shooting start, missing their first nine attempts, but went 11-of-22 after that.

McFadgon brought the Tigers back at the start of the second half, hitting three 3-pointers in the opening 3 minutes to erase Tennessee Tech's lead.
