Huggins: 'I have not made a decision'

By The Associated Press

CINCINNATI (AP) Bob Huggins said Friday he has not decided whether to stay at Cincinnati or return to West Virginia.

``I have not made a decision,'' the basketball coach told Cincinnati's WCPO-TV. ``I don't know anything. All this stuff about I'm meeting my attorney in Columbus isn't true.''

Huggins said he was mystified by all the attention and miffed at uninformed speculation.

``I can't use my office. People are camped out there,'' Huggins said. ``I'm just trying to step back and take some time.''

WCPO said Huggins did not discuss whether West Virginia has made a formal job offer, as has been widely assumed.

Cincinnati and West Virginia newspapers reported earlier that Huggins met with West Virginia school officials Tuesday and Wednesday in Morgantown, WV.

Phone messages left by The Associated Press at Huggins' office and with his Columbus attorney, Bret Adams, were not returned.

University of Cincinnati president Joseph Steger's office has not yet received word from Huggins, spokesman Greg Hand said Friday.

Bryan Messerly, a spokesman for the West Virginia athletic department, said officials there had not spoken to Huggins about a report that appeared Friday on CBS SportsLine.com.

That report, based on unidentified sources, said Huggins would accept West Virginia's offer, which the Web site said included incentives for boosting attendance at home games and qualifying for the NCAA tournament.

Huggins, 48, was born in Morgantown, played for the Mountaineers in 1975-77 and began his career there as a graduate assistant. The West Virginia job opened when Gale Catlett, also a former Cincinnati coach, retired Feb. 14.

In 22 seasons as a head coach, including 13 at Cincinnati, Huggins has a 500-172 record.

The Bearcats won their seventh straight Conference USA championship this season and finished at 31-4, losing to UCLA 105-101 in double overtime in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

West Virginia was 8-20 this season, including a 1-15 record in the Big East.
