South Carolina 4, East Carolina 0   [ VIEW BOX SCORE ]

ATLANTA (AP) — Chris Hernandez pitched a five-hitter, and Kevin Melillo went 3-for-4 with a homer as South Carolina beat East Carolina. Hernandez (5-4) —— in just his fourth start of the season and first since
April 27 — struck out a career-high seven and walked two for the Gamecocks (40-20). The Pirates (33-26-1) loaded the bases in the third with one out, but Darryl Lawhorn lined into a double play to end the threat.

Stetson 5, Georgia Tech 4

ATLANTA (AP) — Brian Snyder, Andy Wilson and Pete Rasmusen all homered, and Stetson upset Georgia Tech, the No. 3 national seed. Adam Blair (3-2) allowed four runs — three earned — on five hits and struck
out a career-high 10 in 8 2-3 innings for the Hatters (40-22). Micah Owings (9-3) homered, but gave up all three Stetson home runs — allowing four runs on nine hits for Georgia Tech (44-17).

Wilson Regional

Virginia Commonwealth 6, Western Carolina 0

WILSON, N.C. (AP) — Justin Orenduff and Brian Marshall combined on a one-hitter as Virginia Commonwealth tied a school record with its 46th win. Orenduff (9-3) allowed one hit, struck out seven and walked one in six innings, and Marshall pitched three innings for his 12th save. Jeff Parrish went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs for VCU (46-11). Matt Nelson doubled in the third for the only hit for WCU (41-20).

N.C. State 8, Le Moyne 2

WILSON, N.C. (AP) — Michael Rogers (12-3) allowed three hits in eight innings, and Dustin Knight and Joe Gaetti each homered to lead North Carolina State over Le Moyne. Gaetti, the son of former major leaguer Gary Gaetti, was 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the Wolfpack (43-16). Brian Mattoon (10-4) struck out nine for Le Moyne (33-16), but gave up five runs on 13 hits.

Starkville Regional

North Carolina 4, Missouri 3, 11 innings

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Ryan Blake's RBI single in the bottom of the 11th gave North Carolina (40-21) the victory over Missouri (35-21). Jeremy Cleveland and Mike Daniel homered for the Tar Heels.

Mississippi State 10, Middle Tennessee State 4

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Steve Gendron had two hits and three RBIs for Mississippi State (41-18-1). Steve Kline (7-4) was pulled without getting an out in the third inning, allowing four earned runs on eight hits for the Blue Raiders (33-26).

Hattiesburg Regional

Southern 5, Southern Mississippi 3

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Rickie Weeks homered and drove in three runs, and Dewon Day allowed three hits in 8 2-3 innings for Southern. Weeks, batting .500 entering the tournament and projected to be one of the
first picks in Tuesday's draft, went 2-for-3 for the Jaguars (46-5). Bob McCrory struck out 10 in six innings and allowed three runs — one earned — for the Golden Eagles (45-15).

Baylor 7, Murray State 6

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Baylor (42-21) scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth to beat Murray State (25-30), the only team in the 64-team NCAA tournament field with a losing record. Trey Webb's two-out RBI single off reliever Gordon Dugan (2-5) tied it 6-6 in the seventh for the Bears (42-21). Baylor went ahead when Chris Durbin bunted in front of home plate and catcher Charlie Ward's throw went high and down the right-field line, scoring Kevin Sevigny.

College Station Regional

Alabama 9, Houston 3

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Brent Carter scattered eight hits in his sixth complete game of the season, and Adam Pavkovich hit a two-run homer for Alabama. Carter (10-5) struck out eight and walked none for the Crimson Tide (38-22). Houston (32-28) tied it 3-3 in the second on Cole Bruce's leadoff homer and Brett Logan's two RBIs, but Alabama scored in each of the next two innings to take the lead for good.

Texas A&M 6, Oral Roberts 3

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Kevin Whelan hit a tiebreaking home run — the first of his career — in the seventh as Texas A&M beat Oral Roberts. John Infante and Justin Ruggiano also homered for Texas A&M (44-17), and Kyle Parcus (6-3) struck out a career-high 11. Scott Beerer earned his school-record 13th save. Andy Hargrove, son of Baltimore Orioles manager Mike Hargrove, homered for Oral Roberts (41-19).

Baton Rouge Regional

LSU 11, Northeastern 8

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — J.C. Holt hit two homers and drove in five runs as LSU, the national No. 2 seed, beat Northeastern and remained unbeaten in regional openers since 1985. Jake Tompkins (3-5), who hadn't pitched in three weeks because of a sore arm, allowed four runs, struck out eight and walked one over seven innings to win his first game for LSU (41-19-1) since May 6. Northeastern (27-23), making its first regionals appearance since 1997, hasn't won an NCAA tournament game since 1974.

Tulane 8, N.C.-Wilmington 3

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Wes Swackhamer's three-run homer capped a five-run eighth inning for Tulane.
With the score tied at 3-3 and Brian Bormaster on first, Jonny Kaplan doubled and Bormaster scored when the throw from left fielder Chip Grawey skipped into the Tulane dugout. Tony Giarrantano followed with an RBI single, and Swackhamer homered for the Green Wave (44-17). Matt Wright went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Seahwks (38-22), making their first regional appearance.

Auburn Regional

Ohio State 10, Clemson 8

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Drew Anderson homered twice and had three RBIs, and Steve Caravati hit a two-run shot for Ohio State (42-19). Clemson (38-21) scored two runs in the ninth, but Matt Davis struck out Collin Mahoney on three pitches to leave the bases loaded and end the Tigers' bid for a 20th come-from-behind win.

Auburn 5, Princeton 2

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Levale Speigner allowed two unearned runs and struck out six in 7 1-3 innings as Auburn, the No. 4 national seed, beat Princeton. Speigner, making his fifth start of the season, became the first pitcher for Auburn (41-19) to go 10-0. Steven Register allowed one hit in 1 2-3 innings for his 16th save.
Princeton (27-22), which won the Ivy League title, fell to 2-14 in regional play.

Stanford Regional

UC Riverside 10, Richmond 8

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Brian Walbrink hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the eighth as third-seeded UC Riverside (41-15) overcame a four-run deficit in its first Division I regional appearance. Tim Stauffer (9-5), projected as one of the first picks in next Tuesday's draft, allowed five runs on a season-high 11 hits in eight innings for Richmond (46-14).

Stanford 9, Illinois-Chicago 2

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Brian Hall and Carlos Quentin hit home runs, and Ryan McCally scattered eight hits for Stanford (42-15), seeking their fifth consecutive trip to the College World Series. Bryan Russo had two hits for the Flames (39-17), who are making their first regional appearance.

Lincoln Regional

Nebraska 16, Eastern Michigan 11

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Daniel Bruce's three-run homer broke open a one-run game in the seventh, and Matt Hopper hit two home runs as Nebraska outslugged Eastern Michigan. John Groce also homered for the Cornhuskers (45-16), who took a six-run lead into the sixth. But Eastern Michigan (32-27) pulled within 8-7 on Ryan Goleski's two home runs and Ryan Arnett's solo shot.

SW Missouri St. 8, Coastal Carolina 3

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Dant'e Brinkley homered twice and drove in five runs to lead Southwest Missouri State over Coastal Carolina. The Bears (36-23) used a four-run fifth to erase a 3-2 deficit against the Chanticleers (45-17).

Austin Regional

Texas 7, Bucknell 0

AUSTIN (AP) — Justin Simmons threw a four-hitter in his ninth career complete game to lead defending College World Series champion Texas over Bucknell in the opening round of the NCAA regionals on Friday night. Eric Sultemeier hit a two-run home run, and Dustin Majewski and Joe Ferin each added solo homers for Texas (44-17). Simmons (5-5) struck out five and walked two in his first complete game of the season.
Bucknell (27-15) was the third team to get shut out by the Longhorns this season.

Lamar 3, Arkansas 2

AUSTIN (AP) — Jordan Foster scored the go-ahead run for Lamar in the top of the ninth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jay Sawatski walked Sammy Bevilacqua and Blake Justice, and Shane Jensen
singled to load the bases. Sawatski then hit Foster with a pitch to bring in Bevilacqua and give Lamar (38-16) a 3-2 lead. Haas Pratt went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Arkansas (34-21).

Tallahassee Regional

South Alabama 14, Rutgers 1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Kevin Sytko hit a three-run homer and had a career-high six RBIs as South Alabama (41-17) routed Rutgers (36-21). Tony Mulhern tied his career high with four hits and drove in three runs for the Jaguars (41-17). Tony Neal (10-5), who made his first start in two months, scattered six hits and struck out four in eight innings. The Jaguars took advantage of three errors by shortstop Mike Bionde and
scored four unearned runs in the first five innings.

Florida St. 6, Jacksonville 0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Matt Lynch threw a three-hitter, and Jerrod Brown homered and had three RBIs as top-seeded Florida State beat Jacksonville. Lynch (13-3) struck out a season-high eight and walked none in the first complete game of the season for the Seminoles (51-10-1). Orlando Diaz was the only one baserunner for Jacksonville (33-29) to reach third base against Lynch.

Coral Gables Regional

Florida Atlantic 4, Florida 3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Jeff Fiorentino hit his 15th homer of the season and had two RBIs for Florida Atlantic. Rusty Brown also homered for FAU (47-14), which jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and held on against the Gators (34-20-1).

Miami 10, Bethune-Cookman 5

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Ryan Braun had four hits, including a two-run homer, for Miami (40-14-1). Juan Figueroa and John Gragg homered for the Wildcats (30-27), who closed to 7-5 in the eighth before the Hurricanes scored three more to put it away.

Houston Regional

Rice 3, McNeese St. 2, 10 innings

HOUSTON (AP) — Craig Stansberry hit an RBI single in the 10th for Rice. Enrique Cruz, the son of former major leaguer Jose Cruz, walked and stole second before Stansberry's single down the third-base line gave the Owls (49-10), trying to reach the College World Series for the fourth time in seven years, the win over the Cowboys (31-29).

Wichita St. 4, Mississippi 2

HOUSTON (AP) — Logen Sorensen hit a go-ahead RBI double in Wichita State's three-run sixth inning.
Nick McCoola homered for the Shockers (48-25), who broke a 1-1 tie on Sorenson's double, Bryan Erstad's RBI single and Cody Clark's run-scoring triple. Seth Smith homered in the fifth to give Mississippi (34-26) a 1-0 lead.

Tempe Regional

New Mexico St. 14, UNLV 12, 11 innings

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Billy Becher went 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs in New Mexico State's victory. Becher, who leads Division I with 32 homers and 114 RBIs, hit a solo shot in the second, a two-run double in the sixth and an RBI single in the 11th for the Aggies (43-16). The Aggies blew an 11-5 lead in the eighth when the Rebels (45-16) scored six runs off closer Mike Smith.

Arizona St. 14, Cent. Connecticut St. 2

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Andre Ethier drove in three runs and Dennis Wyrick had a two-run triple as Arizona State (51-12) routed Central Connecticut State (31-16-2). Arizona State's Dustin Pedroia hit his 33rd double — three shy of the NCAA record set by LSU's Brad Hawpe in 2000 — in the second.

Fullerton Regional

Notre Dame 13, Arizona 5

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Matt Macri hit a three-run homer, and Matt Edwards had a three-run triple as Notre Dame (44-16) beat Arizona (35-22). Every starter for Notre Dame (44-16) had at least one hit, while Steve Sollmann and Javi Sanchez each had three.

Cal State-Fullerton 3, San Diego 1

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Jason Windsor combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as Cal State-Fullerton (44-13) beat San Diego. Windsor allowed two hits and one run in 6 1-3 innings, Travis Ingle gave up two hits in one inning and Chad Cordero pitched 1 2-3 perfect innings for the save. Freddy Sandoval homered for San Diego (31-29).

Long Beach Regional

Washington 5, Minnesota 3

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Tila Reynolds hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning to lead Washington (41-16) past Minnesota. Minnesota (39-21) had tied it at 3-3 in the seventh when Jon Becker walked with the bases loaded and Jake Elder was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run.

Long Beach St. 6, Pepperdine 1

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Todd Jennings hit a leadoff home run and Troy Tulowitzki had a two-run single in the first to give Long Beach State all the offense it needed. Jennings went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Tulowitzki was 3-for-4 for Long Beach State (39-18). Abe Alvarez (11-1) held Pepperdine (36-24) to four hits in seven innings.
