NEW ORLEANS — East Carolina dropped the opening game of its American Conference series at Tulane, 4-1, on Friday night.
The outcome ended a 5-game winning streak for the Pirates, who slipped to 21-13-1 overall and 6-4 in league play going into the second game of the series on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN+).
Tulane scored first in the bottom of the first as Tye Wood came in on a ground out by Jason Wachs for an unearned run and a 1-0 lead.
ECU got a tying run in the second as Colby Wallace came in from second on a single to left by Matthew Lashley.
The Green Wave took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on a homer to right by Trent Liolios after Wachs reached on catcher’s interference.
Tulane went up 4-1 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Wachs.
Trey Cehajic (2-3) started and went five and one-third innings for the win.
Sam Larson struck out three in the ninth inning for his third save.
ECU starter Luke Payne (1-1) did not allow an earned run over five innings but was charged with the loss. Gavin Marley pitched the last three innings. The Pirate pitchers had seven strikeouts.
