GREENVILLE — After trailing 4-1 early, East Carolina came back Wednesday for an 11-5 nonconference victory over Northern Illinois at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Jack Vogele, Davin Whitaker and Carlos Jacome had three RBIs each for the Pirates (2-3).
ECU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a bunt single by Braden Burress and a pair of walks. Burress scored when Grady Lanahan reached on a fielder’s choice.
A solo homer by Will Couchman and a 2-run shot by Caden Robertson put the Huskies up, 3-1, in the second.
Charlie Parcell singled for the visitors in the third, moved to second on a bunt and scored on a single by Gavin Baldwin.
The Pirates scored two runs in the third and four more in the fourth for a 7-4 lead.
Whitaker had a 2-run homer in the third. Whitaker had a sacrifice fly and Jacome had a 3-run blast in the fourth.
Vogele had a bases-loaded double for the Pirates in the seventh.
Jack Herring had a sacrifice fly for ECU in the eighth.
Frank Ciccone (1-0), the second of six pitchers for the Pirates, went two and one-third innings for the win. He allowed four hits with two runs (both earned) with no walks and two strikeouts.
Gavin Micklinghoff (0-1) was charged with the loss for NIU (2-2).
ECU starts a 3-game multi-site series with No. 11 North Carolina (5-0) in Greenville on Friday at 5 p.m.
