GREENVILLE — No. 24 Coastal Carolina turned the tables in its 3-game series at East Carolina with a 9-1 win on Saturday to make Sunday’s 1 p.m. matchup at Clark-LeClair Stadium the deciding game.
The Pirates (7-7) took a 7-0 win on Friday but were playing from behind on Saturday after a 5-run second inning by the Chanticleers (11-4).
Coastal’s big frame included 2-run homers by Ty Dooley and Blake Barthol that were sandwiched around an RBI double by Caden Bodine.
ECU avoided a shutout when Colby Wallace scored on a wild pitch in the eighth.
The visitors closed the scoring in the ninth with RBI singles by Blagen Pado and Bodine.
Coastal outhit the Pirates, 11-6. Wallace went 2-for-3 for ECU.
Cameron Flukey (1-0) started and went seven innings for the win. He yielded four hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Oliver Ellison pitched the last two innings.
Sean Jenkins (1-1) was charged with the loss.
