CHARLOTTE — R.J. Felton had 23 points on eight of 14 field goal shooting to lead East Carolina to a 75-59 American Athletic Conference win at Charlotte on Saturday.
Felton was seven of nine from beyond the arc.
“R.J. was locked in and focused,” said ECU coach Mike Schwartz on the Pirate radio network.
It was the largest margin of victory for a Pirate win in the series with the 49ers and came after the hosts had taken a 35-27 lead early in the second half.
ECU improved to 5-6 when trailing at the half this season.
“The word is resiliency whether it’s a game, a series of games or a possession within a game,” Schwartz said. “This is a resilient group.”
Jordan Riley hit two free throws with 15:07 remaining to put the Pirates ahead to stay at 43-41. The advantage moved to double digits when Felton hit a three with 5:37 left for a 62-52 advantage.
Riley had 15 points and eight rebounds as ECU improved to 15-11 overall and 7-6 in the AAC. C.J. Walker added 13 points and seven rebounds. Cam Hayes had eight points and eight assists.
ECU led, 33-20, on the boards.
Charlotte (9-17, 2-11 AAC) was paced by 15 points from Giancarlo Rosado. Adding 14 points each were Nik Graves and Jaehshon Thomas.
The Pirates play at Tulane (14-11, 8-4) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Green Wave topped Rice, 81-78, in New Orleans on Saturday.
I guess a little payback for the football game.
