FAIRFAX, VA — East Carolina played its first road game of the season Saturday at George Mason and was dealt an 81-59 loss.
The Pirates fell to 4-3 going into a home game with UNC-Wilmington on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Patriots improved to 5-1 as Darius Maddox had 19 points.
ECU never led but used a 9-0 run to tie the score at 26 with 4:31 left in the half on a 3-pointer by Quintin Diboundje.
GMU went ahead to stay on a three by Keyshawn Hall with 3:57 remaining in the half.
GMU held a 39-31 advantage at halftime and outscored the Pirates, 42-28, in the second half.
Diboundje and Brandon Johnson led the Pirates with 13 points each. Ezra Ausar added 10 points.
Hall had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson led the Pirates with seven rebounds.
The hosts shot 58.2 percent from the field (342 for 55) while ECU was at 34.5 percent (20 for 58).
