GREENVILLE — Northeastern outscored East Carolina, 53-43, in the second half for an 82-76 win in the TowneBank Holiday Classic on Sunday in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
The Huskies shot 64 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes, taking the lead for good at 56-55 on a dunk by Alexander Nwagha off an offensive rebound.
Northeastern held a 32-23 rebounding advantage as ECU was without Brandon Johnson again in its second straight loss. Johnson averaged 21 points and seven rebounds in a 2-0 start for the Pirates.
The Huskies (2-2) had five players score in double figures including Chris Doherty, who led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Ezra Ausar paced the Pirates (2-2) with 18 points. Bobby Pettiford Jr. scored 15, Quintin Diboundje had 14 points. R.J. Felton added 10 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
The TowneBank Holiday Classic continues tonight with ECU taking on Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. (ESPN+).
