GREENVILLE — R.J. Felton scored 30 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead East Carolina to a 77-63 win over Campbell at Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum on Saturday.
Felton made 10 of 17 field goal attempts, including four of nine from beyond the arc. He hit all six of his free throws and made three steals.
The Pirates improved to 2-0 going into a home game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with South Carolina Upstate (0-2), which hosts Piedmont on Sunday.
Anthony Dell’Ordo of the Camels (1-1) took scoring honors with 35 points.
Jaden Walker hit a 3-pointer to put ECU ahead to stay at 7-4 with 17:46 left in the first half. The Pirates led 39-26 at the half.
Campbell was credited with just two offensive rebounds as ECU held an overall 35-23 advantage on the boards.
“From a defensive standpoint, I really felt like for most of the game that was what we wanted to try to do,” said ECU coach Michael Schwartz on the Pirates radio network. “We talked about it for a couple of days. That’s really where our time and emphasis was — on defense. And I think we did that.”
ECU had its largest lead of 25 points at 57-32 with 11:41 to go.
The Pirates had more field goals, 30-19, but the Camels made up part of the disparity by going 21 for 28 at the line while ECU was eight for 11 on foul shots.
Brandon Johnson and Ezra Ausar each scored 11 points for the Pirates. Kansas transfer Bobby Pettiford Jr. added eight points and seven assists with no turnovers in 25 minutes.
Laurynas Vaistaras had nine points for the Camels, who lost for the fifth straight time in the series which ECU leads, 42-20.
