NEW ORLEANS — East Carolina and Tulane played for the second time in three nights with the Green Wave winning, 81-78. on Friday as Jaylen Forbes scored 25 points.
The Pirates had a 42-31 lead early in the second half.
From a tie at 62, the Wave went on a 10-4 run that was capped by a drive from Forbes for a 72-66 Tulane advantage with 4:32 to go.
ECU called time with Tulane leading, 79-76, with eight seconds remaining. The Wave defended the arc and the Pirates pulled within one point at 79-78 on a dunk by Ezra Ausar with one second left. Forbes made two free throws for the final margin.
Quentin Diboundje’s fling from midcourt hit the rim support at the buzzer.
ECU downed Tulane, 83-68, in Greenville on Wednesday night.
R.J. Felton paced the Pirates with 23 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Ausar had 22 points on 10 of 16 field goal shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. Brandon Johnson had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Diboundje had 10 points and five assists. Jaden Walker had nine points, five rebounds and five assists.
ECU led 45-31 in rebounding but the hosts made 32 of 62 field goal attempts for 51.6 percent.
Jalen Cook scored 19 points for Tulane (18-10, 11-6 AAC) and Kevin Cross had 15 points.
The Pirates slipped to 15-15 overall and 6-11 in league play going into the regular-season finale at Central Florida (16-13, 7-10) on Sunday at 2 p.m. (ESPN+, 2 p.m.).
