GREENVILLE — East Carolina rallied from a 4-1 deficit after five innings to win its 12th straight game by an 8-4 margin over Houston at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Thursday night.
The Pirates improved to 36-18 overall and 18-4 in the American Athletic Conference.
After Zach Agnos scored on a wild pitch in the first inning for a 1-0 ECU lead, the Cougars (34-20, 13-9 AAC) scored four runs in the third on a 2-run single by Brandon Uhse and a 2-run homer by Zach Arnold.
The Pirates scored four runs in the sixth for a 5-4 advantage. Lane Hoover had an RBI single, Ben Newton had a run-scoring bunt, Alec Makarewicz had an RBI single and Josh Moylan hit a sacrifice fly.
ECU added three runs in the eighth as Jacob Starling, Joey Berini and Agnos had run-scoring singles.
Danny Beal (4-1) tossed three scoreless innings of relief in picking up the win and Carter Spivey also had three scoreless frames in earning his fifth save.
Agnos had three hits with a triple and one RBI. Makarewicz and Starling each had two hits and an RBI.
The second game of the series is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m.
