GREENVILLE — East Carolina improved to 7-0 in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum this season with an 82-71 win over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday night.
Vance Jackson had 23 points and eight rebounds for ECU (8-2). J.J. Miles scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pirates.
ECU led 81-63 with just over one minute to go but the Aggies (3-7) made an 8-0 run as Pirates coach Joe Dooley cleared his bench.
“That last little bit was a debacle,” Dooley said. “We did some good things. We gave up too many offensive rebounds (13). Once we got control of the game, we did some good things.”
ECU went ahead to stay at 24-23 on a driving layup by Brandon Johnson with 7:24 left in the half. The Pirates expanded their lead to 37-30 at the break.
Tristen Newton contributed 14 points and eight assists in the victory. Tremont Robinson-White had 11 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Johnson added eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
A&T was led by 15 points from Demetric Horton.
ECU returns to action against Liberty at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte on Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. (ESPN+) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Shootout. The Flames are 5-3 with games at Stephen F. Austin on Saturday and at home against Kentucky Christian on Monday before matching up with the Pirates.
