CHAPEL HILL — East Carolina fell again to a midweek foe in an 8-1 loss at North Carolina on Tuesday night.
The Pirates are 14-1 in weekend series but are 2-3 in other games with their second straight weekday loss.
ECU (16-4), ranked as high as No, 8 nationally, tied the score at 1 in the top of the second as Josh Moylan scored on an infield single by Ben Newton.
It was all UNC (13-6) after that. The hosts took the lead in the third as Justice Thompson came home on a ground out to first.
Tomas Frick was 2-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBIs to lead the Tar Heels.
Nik Pry (1-2) got the win with three and one-third innings in relief. He allowed two hits with no runs and no walks while striking out five.
Starter Tyler Smith (0-1) was charged with the loss.
The Pirates start a 3-game series at home with St. John’s on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
UNC visits ECU on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
