NEWPORT, RI — There was good news for lobster lovers who ate to their content at the American Athletic Conference clambake adjacent to the waterfront at Gurney’s Resort on Goat Island on Monday night.
Although the AAC is moving its offices to Dallas, league spokesman Chuck Sullivan indicated there are two years remaining on the conference’s contract to have the event in Newport.
Sullivan didn’t go as far as to say it was for certain that the big-time gathering would be coming back to the smallest state, but it looks like a good possibility.
The AAC will host breakfast and lunch today. In between the meals, media will hear from AAC commissioner Mike Aresco as well as players and coaches.
The league will release its preseason poll today. Sources indicate East Carolina is picked fifth among six teams in the East Division.
