GREENVILLE — East Carolina loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning and pinch runner Christian Jayne scored the winning run on a bunt single by Brady Lloyd for a 4-3 victory over Campbell on Tuesday night.
The Pirates improved to 40-12 and evened the season series with the Camels (29-20) after a 7-6 loss in Buies Creek on Feb.20.
Evan Voliva (5-3) came on with one out in the top of the ninth to strand the potential go-ahead run at third.
Chandler Jenkins led off ECU’s half of the ninth with a single to center and Jayne came in to run. Ryder Giles walked and pinch hitter Thomas Francisco was plunked by a pitch to load the bases.
Campbell changed pitchers before Lloyd bunted the first offering from Jack Yusko down the first-base line for the game-winning RBI.
The Camels took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Zach Minnick.
The Pirates pulled even in the third on a solo homer to left by Bryson Worrell.
Campbell moved in front 3-1 in the sixth on an RBI double by Collin Wolf and a bases-loaded walk to Minnick.
Jenkins hit a 2-run homer to right in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at 3.
Jenkins was 2-for-4 with ECU’s only extra-base hit.
Evan Odum, Giles, Alec Burleson, Gavin Williams and Voliva saw mound duty as the Pirates totaled seven strikeouts in the nonconference matchup.
ECU finishes the regular season with an American Athletic Conference series at home against Memphis starting Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
