ELON — East Carolina took charge early in a 9-4 win at Elon on Tuesday night. The 12th-ranked Pirates (26-10) scored five runs in the first inning and never trailed.
Bryant Packard, Spencer Brickhouse and Jake Washer hit home runs for ECU.
Brickhouse hit a 3-run homer to right center in the top of the first and Washer added a solo shot to left center later in the opening frame.
Packard went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs. He hit a solo homer in the eighth. Turner Brown was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Brady Lloyd contributed two hits and two RBIs.
Alec Burleson (3-1) started and went two innings for the win. Cam Colmore pitched the next two innings. Evan Odum had six strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings. Sam Lanier finished on the mound.
The ECU hurlers notched 13 whiffs.
The Pirates return to American Athletic Conference action on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at home against Connecticut.
