CHARLOTTE — East Carolina returned from exam break with a 55-49 loss at Charlotte on Tuesday night.
The Pirates slipped to 6-5 despite a 16-point effort by Shawn Williams. Seth LeDay had 14 points for ECU and freshman Jayden Gardner added 11.
The Pirates trailed 51-49 when LeDay missed from close range with eight seconds remaining.
The 49ers scored their last four points on free throws to improve to 3-5 and halt a three-game losing streak.
Isaac Fleming had nine rebounds, six assists and four steals for ECU.
Jon Davis finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to lead Charlotte.
The Pirates had not played since a 70-47 home win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Dec, 2.
ECU has another extended layoff before hosting North Carolina A&T on Friday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m.
