GREENVILLE — East Carolina moved out to a 42-21 lead at the half and got 22 points from freshman Jayden Gardner in defeating Maryland-Eastern Shore, 70-47, in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Sunday.
The Pirates got 10 points each from Shawn Williams, Seth LeDay and K.J. Davis in improving to 6-4 with their second straight win.
The Hawks fell to 1-8 despite 14 points each from A.J. Cheeseman and Montraz Oliver.
Isaac Fleming contributed eight points, five assists and two steals for ECU.
Gardner had eight rebounds for the Pirates. Dimitri Spasojevic, LeDay and Davis had six rebounds apiece.
ECU outrebounded the Hawks, 42-28, and led 16-4 in assists.
The Pirates made 28 of 58 field goal attempts for 48.3 percent while the visitors were limited to 16 of 50 from the floor, 50 percent.
ECU has a break for exams before heading to Charlotte for a matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
