ECU NewsNo official developments on the AD hiring front

November 29, 2018 By Bethany Bradsher 2 Comments

Wednesday’s meeting of the East Carolina Board of Trustees ended without a public announcement, even though the board was expected to finalize the terms for the hiring of a new athletic director.

In the meeting’s open session, Chairman Kieran Shanahan informed the media that nothing would be announced at the conclusion of the closed personnel meeting, and after two hours in the meeting room the meeting concluded without an official statement. Chancellor Cecil Staton was not present at the meeting.

Multiple sources have pointed to Southern Mississippi Athletic Director Jon Gilbert as the top candidate for the position. North State Journal reporter Brett Friedlander, citing several unnamed sources, reported earlier this week that ECU officials are believed to be targeting Gilbert to fill the position that has been open since Jeff Compher was forced out last spring. Friedlander is also a Bonesville columnist.

An article in Wednesday’s Hattiesburg American reported that Gilbert was planning to interview with the ECU selection committee by the end of the week, but the same source said that reports that Gilbert had already accepted the offer were not correct.

Scottie Montgomery was fired earlier today and it’s 3 pm and I don’t see a word about it here. Do you folks update this site?

Jack: Brett Friedlander filed a story with updates on this afternoon’s developments earlier this evening. Logistical issues on my end were the reason something wasn’t posted earlier. We are also going to adopt a more active Twitter regimen (@bonesville) to facilitate the posting of more frequent blurbs on this and other topics as warranted. — Danny Whitford, Editor
