You win a few, you lose a few and a few get rained out. It’s a baseball adage but it applied to East Carolina’s season opener in football on Saturday night.

Lightning in the area of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium caused two delays and the arrival of a thunderstorm resulted in the postponement of a matchup with North Carolina A&T to Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

ECU is coming off a 3-9 season but expects to be improved. The Aggies were 12-0 in 2017 and have a 1-0 record this year after winning 20-17 at Jacksonville State.

The Pirates are a Football Bowl Subdivision program with 85 scholarships. The Aggies compete on the Football Championship Subdivision level, which allows 63 scholarships.
