Bittersweet Farewell

East Carolina quarterback David Garrard is a few steps ahead of pursuing Southern Miss defensive end Brian Evans as he looks for a receiver during last Friday's game in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. For Garrard, who holds virtually all of ECU's career passing and total offense records, the game marked his final appearance on Bagwell Field. USM, which has prevailed in 12 of its last 14 trips to the Pirates' home turf, put a sour spin on Garrard's farewell with a come-from-behind 28-21 win.
