CSTV, DISH satellite service finally strike deal
East Carolina and Conference USA fans
will be happy about a Wednesday press release out of the Rocky Mountains,
though some Pirate fans might say it came a week late.
Englewood, Colorado-based EchoStar
Communications Corporation announced its DISH Network satellite TV service
now offers College Sports Television.
CSTV televised last Saturday's
ECU-Duke game from Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium and will air a substantial
number of additional C-USA games during the 2005 college football season.
Many ECU fans who are DISH subscribers expressed frustration that CSTV was
not in the DISH channel lineup for the Pirates' 24-21 season-opening win
over the Blue Devils.
CSTV is a multi-media company
consisting of the first 24-hour college sports television network network.
In its release, EchoStar said that
CSTV's programming would be available to DISH Network's 11.4 million
nationwide subscribers and included in DISH Network's "America's Top 180"
programming package at no extra charge.
CSTV claims to provide more live
college sports games, events, news, information, analysis and broadband
content on more platforms and to reach more college sports fans than any
other company.
CSTV already has television rights for
all Conference USA sports and in 2006 will have exclusive media rights for
all Mountain West Conference sports. CSTV also owns exclusive multi-media
rights to carry U.S. Naval Academy home and selected neutral-site football
games as well as some other Navy sports.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, CSTV will
broadcast Stanford vs. Navy at Annapolis, MD.
"CSTV complements DISH Network's
powerful line-up of sports programming," stated Eric Sahl, senior vice
president of Programming for DISH Network. "The addition of CSTV on DISH
Network provides customers with access to more college sports information
without the need for extra, costly services."
"We're delighted that DISH Network
recognizes the huge appetite that college fans have for seeing more games
from more schools on television," stated Brian Bedol, chief executive
officer for CSTV Networks. "Now, DISH Network and its subscribers have more
access to valuable, daily, live college sports programming and CSTV gains
greater national distribution."
CSTV's programming is on DISH Network
Channel 152. More information on DISH Network can be obtained online at
www.dishnetwork.com or by calling 800-333-3474.
