The Southern Mississippi ticket office
announced recently that all unsold tickets for away games at Nebraska on
Saturday, Sept. 11, and at Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 16, will be returned to
the host schools at the close of business on Friday, Aug. 27. Both opposing
schools are currently sold out for their respective games versus the Golden
Eagles.
Away game tickets previously ordered
for the Nebraska, Alabama, and Texas Christian games were to be mailed last
week. USM's allotments had not yet been received for games at Tulane, South
Florida and Memphis, said a news release, which indicated those tickets
would be mailed at a later date.
Football season tickets and parking
passes are scheduled to be mailed by the end of August, noted the
announcement.
The Golden Eagles' first home game of
the 2004 season is Thursday, Sept. 16, versus nationally-ranked California.
According to the release, USM season
and single game tickets are available by contacting the school's ticket
office at 601-266-5418, 1-800-844-8425, or online at
SouthernMiss.com.
Terps extend coach's pact into next decade
COLLEGE PARK — Maryland coach Ralph
Friedgen received an eight-year contract extension that could keep him at
his alma mater through 2012.
Friedgen is 31-8 in three seasons with
the Terrapins.
His base salary will be $210,790 a year
and his total annual package will be about $1.5 million, according to a
statement released Friday by athletic director Deborah A. Yow.
The contract requires that $1 million
be paid to the university if Friedgen leaves for a coaching position at any
other college or professional team.
"Maryland is where I want to be," the
57-year-old Friedgen said. "With the improvement of our facilities and the
progress this program has seen in the last three years, I am enthusiastic
about seeing how high we can take it."
Maryland is one of only five schools in
Division I-A to have won at least 10 games in each of the last three
seasons. Friedgen's fourth season opens at home Sept. 4 against Northern
Illinois.
