The East Carolina-Seton Hall basketball
game, originally scheduled for Dec. 6 at Continental Airlines Arena but
postponed when ECU's flight arrangements to the Northeast were disrupted by
a snowstorm, will not be made up.
"Despite our best efforts to find a date
that worked for us this year, we are unable to reschedule the East Carolina
game this season," Seton Hall athletic director Jeff Fogelson said. "It is
our intention to work together with East Carolina to schedule a game at
Continental Airlines Arena for next season."
ECU coach Bill Herrion had indicated his
strong desire to reschedule the game in the future if a suitable date could
not be identified during the current season.
Herrion, who served as head coach at Drexel
until joining the Pirates five years ago, focuses significant recruiting
efforts on the Northeast. His current roster includes freshman Japhet McNeil
from nearby Brooklyn and freshman Mike Cook from Philadelphia.
Fans who purchased individual tickets to
the game will be able to exchange their seats for another game or receive a
refund check, according to Seton Hall officials.
Pirates seal the deal with trio of
jucos
Three junior college football players whom
Bonesville.net reported recently had made verbal commitments to East
Carolina have signed on the dotted link.
Safety Zach Baker and tight end Willie Metcalf,
both of Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., and offensive lineman
Joel Renaud of California's Reedley
College, have made their pledges formal, according to a Friday announcement
by Pirates head coach John Thompson.

Ole
Miss gobbles up Cotton Bowl tickets
OXFORD — Instead of receiving Cotton Bowl
tickets in the mail, some Mississippi fans who placed an order will be
getting a letter stating the tickets were sold out. Sans Russell, assistant
athletic director for ticket operations, said the university mailed
approximately 17,700 Cotton Bowl tickets early this week.
``Our original allotment was for 17,000
tickets, but we were able to secure an additional 700,'' Russell said,
adding that his office received more than 22,000 ticket orders. ``Had the
tickets been available, I really believe we could have sold over 25,000,''
Russell said.
No. 16 Ole Miss and No. 21 Oklahoma State will meet for the first time on
Jan. 2 at the 68,252-seat stadium in Dallas. The game is a sellout.
