the Pirates to 0-2 in the
American Athletic

CINCINNATI � East Carolina
was held to 27 percent shooting in a 69-48 American Athletic Conference
loss at Cincinnati on Tuesday night.
The Bearcats went ahead
3-0 on a shot from behind the arc by Troy Caupain with 18:02 left in
the first half and led the rest of the way.
Two free throws by
Cincinnati's Octavius Ellis pushed the margin to 29-18 with 3:10
remaining in the half and the Bearcats maintained a double-digit
advantage the remainder of the game.
Cincinnati led by as
many as 24 points several times in the second half as a crowd of
7,516 looked on at Fifth Third Arena.
Ellis finished with 12
points, nine rebounds and blocked three shots as the Bearcats
improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the AAC.
Freshman B.J. Tyson had
13 points for ECU (7-9, 0-3) to lead all scorers and he also claimed
a team high seven rebounds.
Florida State transfer
Terry Whisnant added 11 points for the Pirates and Lance Tejada
tallied nine.
Marshall Guilmette, who
has been out much of the season with a hip ailment, had five points
in 14 minutes.
ECU had a 29-24 edge in
bench scoring.
The Pirates made 17 of
63 field goal attempts and were five of 22 from 3-point range (22.7
percent).
ECU sank nine of 13 free
throws (69.2 percent) compared to 13 of 23 (56.5 percent) for the
hosts.
The Bearcats had a 47-35
rebounding advantage. Kevin Johnson had 12 points for Cincinnati.
Caupain had 10 points and six assists.
The Pirates have some
time to regroup before Houston visits on Jan. 14 for a 7 p.m. AAC
contest that will be shown on ESPNU.
