Mississippi

East Carolina made a game
of it for only eight minutes before Southern Mississippi went on a 13-1
run to begin a 92-69 rout of the Pirates on Saturday in Hattiesburg.
The score was tied at 16
with 12:00 left in the first half when sophomore guard Jeremy Wise
nailed a three-pointer to set off the explosion and launch the Golden
Eagles on their way to the easy Conference USA win.
Wise scored a game-high 28
points, freshman guard R.L. Horton added 22 points and junior guard
Courtney Beasley had 15 points for Southern Miss ((11-10, 3-4
C-USA).
USM sophomore guard
Sai'Quon Stone, a product of Laurinburg (NC) Prep, had a game-high 10
rebounds.
The Golden Eagles led
55-30 at the half and built the advantage to as much as 33 points in the
final frame.
Sophomore forward John
Fields scored 13 points, while junior guard Sam Hinnant, senior guard
Cory Farmer and freshman guard Brock Young had 10 apiece for the
Pirates.
The loss dropped East
Carolina to 7-12 overall, 1-5 in conference play. The Pirates return
home for a league matchup on Wednesday night with Rice (8 p.m., CSTV).
