UAB built a 20-10
advantage in the first 10 minutes and maintained a lead the rest of the
way in defeating East Carolina 77-59 Wednesday night in Birmingham, AL.
Junior swingman Robert
Vaden scored 20 points, sophomore forward Howard Crawford added a
career-high 15 and junior guard Channing Toney contributed 10 to help
the Blazers improve to 13-6 overall, 3-1 in Conference USA.
Senior guard Darrell
Jenkins with 12 points and sophomore forward John Fields with 11 were
the only Pirates in double figures as ECU fell to 7-10, 1-3 in the
league.
East Carolina chipped away
at its early deficit to close within 22-20 with 6:31 left in the half
but the Blazers regained the momentum and expanded their margin to 36-23
by halftime.
The Pirates now turn their
attention to a home matchup with Tulane on Saturday at 7 p.m. The league contest tips
off at 8 p.m.
