CHARLOTTE — Former East Carolina golfer Harold Varner III shot a two-over par 74 on Saturday for a 54-hole total of 215 in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.

Varner was in a tie for 19th with 16 other players, including Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson, going into the final round today.

Varner had a double-bogey on the 210-yard par-three 13th on Saturday. His round included three birdies and three bogeys.

Rickie Fowler surged into a one-shot lead with a 68 that put him at 207.

Roberto Castro is at 208. James Hahn and Justin Rose are tied for third at 209.

The event has a purse of $7,300,000.
