STORRS, CT — Connecticut
evened its American Athletic Conference series with East Carolina by
taking a 7-3 win on Saturday.
The deciding game of the
series is at noon today.
The Huskies came back
from
a 7-3 loss to the Pirates on Friday by scoring
three runs in the third inning and maintaining the lead the rest of
the way.
ECU (23-16, 5-6 AAC) had
gone ahead 1-0 in the second after a leadoff double by Luke Lowery.
Kirk Morgan's bunt single moved him to third and Parker Lamm's
sacrifice fly to right field gave the Pirates the early advantage.
UConn's Jon Testani was
hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the third. Jack
Sundberg doubled down the left field line before Vinny Siena singled
to drive in two runs for a 2-1 Huskies lead. Bobby Melley singled
before Siena scored on a fielder's choice that retired Melley at
second.
The Pirates pulled
within 3-2 in the fifth as Luke Bolka doubled and scored on an RBI
single by Charlie Yorgen.
Melley had a two-run
double for UConn (25-14, 6-5) in the seventh.
Morgan's RBI single
scored Eric Tyler in the eighth to close the gap to 5-3. A throwing
error on the Pirates and an RBI single by Eric Yavarone accounted
for two Huskies runs in the bottom of the eighth.
David Lucroy (2-3) took
the loss. He allowed five hits over six innings with four earned
runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Bolka went 3-for-3 for ECU.
Yorgen and Morgan each had two hits.
The Pirates outhit their
hosts 11-7 but ECU pitchers yielded five walks and hit two batters.
Anthony Kay (6-3) got
the win for UConn and Patrick Ruotolo worked one and two-thirds
innings for the save.
