GREENVILLE — East Carolina
scored six times in the first inning and had three more multi-run frames
in a 14-3 win over Albany at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Saturday.
The Pirates (4-4) have a
chance to climb over .500 as the three-game series is scheduled for
completion with a 1 p.m. game today.
ECU's big first inning
included hits by Charlie Yorgen, Bryce Harman, Jeff Nelson, Kirk
Morgan and Hunter Allen.
Luke Lowery went 4-for-4
for the Pirates with two RBIs. Allen went 3-for-4 with a double and
three RBIs.
Harman was 3-for-5 with
a double and three runs driven in. Nelson was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Yorgen and Morgan each had two hits.
Jimmy Boyd (1-1) was
credited with the win, following starter Jacob Wolfe to the mound in
the fifth. Boyd allowed two hits and no runs in two innings.
Joe Ingle, Evan Voliva
and Luke Bolka each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
The Great Danes (1-4)
pulled within 8-3 in the fourth. ECU scored three runs in the bottom
of the fourth, one in the fifth and twice more in the sixth.
The Pirates outhit the
visitors, 18-8, and played errorless defense. ECU stranded 12.
Junior right-hander David Lucroy
(2-2, 1.46 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Pirates this
afternoon.
