GREENVILLE East Carolina and Texas-San Antonio
split a Conference USA doubleheader at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Friday. The
deciding game of the series is scheduled for 11 a.m. today.
ECU won the first contest 3-2 as Reid Love turned in his
third complete game of the season for the Pirates. The Roadrunners bounced
back with a 2-1 victory in the second game.
Love (5-3) allowed five hits and two unearned runs. He
walked one and struck out four.
Dylan Brown's solo home run down the right field line put
the Pirates ahead to stay in the first game.
ECU added two runs in the fifth on an RBI double by Zach
Houchins and a UTSA error.
The visitors scored a pair of runs in the sixth with the
help of a couple of Pirate errors before Love avoided further damage with a
strikeout and a ground out.
Love retired the Roadrunners in order in the ninth, using
120 pitches for the game. He threw 86 strikes.
Houchins was 2-for-4 in the opener with an RBI and his
15th double of the season to lead ECU at the plate.
Hunter Allen was 2-for-3 in the second game as both teams
were limited to four hits.
The only run for the Pirates came on a second inning solo
homer to right center by Ian Towwnsend which provided a 1-0 lead.
ECU starter Tyler Bolton left the game with a no-hitter
through five and one-third innings, but two walks, an error and a wild pitch
led to the tying run in the top of the sixth.
Ryan Williams (10-3) absorbed the loss. UTSA scored the
go-ahead run in the eighth after a one-out double by R.J. Perucki. Mike
Warren singled to move Peruki to third. A bunt by John Bormann brought
Peruki home.
The Pirates finished the day 31-24 overall and 15-14 in
league play. A crowd of 2,318 saw the Roadrunners improve to 32-23 on the
season and 16-13 in their inaugural C-USA season.
