GREENVILLE — Derrick Wiley scored 22 points and Gabriel Mikulas added 18 points and nine rebounds to lead East Carolina to a 100-59 win over UNC Pembroke Tuesday night.

Erroyl Bing tallied 13 points off the bench for ECU and Corey Rouse chipped in 11.

The Pirates (2-0) enjoyed a 53-22 rebounding edge and also dominated offensively inside, outscoring the Braves 56-14 in the paint.

Reserve Justin Baker led UNCP (1-3) with 18 points and Damien Goodman had 14. The Braves committed 24 turnovers and trailed from the start.

The Pirates converted 21 of 38 shots in the first half on their way to a 56-33 halftime lead. UNCP made 18 of 49 attempts from the field.

Freshman point guard Japhet McNeil had well-rounded production, scoring seven points, dishing eight assists and collecting five steals for the Pirates.

ECU coach Bill Herrion took note of the roles played by newcomers in what was a runaway but sometimes messy win.

"We have a lot of young guys that we are still trying to break in here," Herrion said. "Japhet McNeil, Frank Robinson and Mike Cook just played their second college basketball game. I think if we are going to be disappointed with a 41-point win, then we need to look down inside ourselves. But we will take it, we are happy to be 2-0."

Freshmen guards Cook and Robinson contributed nine points apiece.

Next up for East Carolina is a Saturday matchup up at 8 p.m. with visiting Coastal Carolina.
