WASHINGTON, DC — East
Carolina practiced through snow flurries on Sunday in
Washington, DC. Of course, the weather was no big deal
compared to what Greenville and Eastern North Carolina
were going through at the same time.
We made the decision to
come up to the bowl game on Christmas afternoon. We were
lucky, because I don't think conditions would have
allowed us to make it up on Sunday.
The Pirates were
bundled up for the workout. The snow swirled thoughout,
but the wind was more of a problem then anything else.
"It was cold," said ECU
receiver Dwayne Harris. "I'm still cold. But we needed
this because it might be cold for the game on
Wednesday."
Pirate Coach Ruffin
McNeill was pleased with his team's effort. McNeill says
he's been impressed overall with how this team has
prepared for the Military Bowl. Now, the first-year
coach hopes that work will pay dividends.
ECU defensive lineman
Josh Smith sat out of Sunday's practice with a bad
ankle. Smith says he will play in the bowl game. He
joked about how he was injured.
"One of our fat guys
fell on me," Smith smiled as he explained. "But I
promise I'll be out on the field in the bowl game."
The Pirates have an
early practice on Monday. Coach McNeill and a couple of
players will take part in a press conference that
afternoon, and then the entire squad will tour the
Capitol Building in the afternoon.
"We've had a good time
so far," said Coach McNeill. "But we came here to do a
job, and we have to stay focused."
Maryland is a
seven-point favorite in the game which is set for
Wednesday afternoon.
