Watch this episode of “Purple & Gold Press” hosted by Bubba Rosenbaum and featuring third-year USC-Upstate coach Marty Richter. They touch on Richter’s positive memories of crossing paths with former East Carolina coaches Eddie Payne and Joe Dooley before previewing the Monday evening season opener between the Spartans and East Carolina at Minges Coliseum (7:00 p.m., ESPN+). The late Payne coached USC-Upstate from 2002-2017. The Spartans’ arena is named after Payne and his wife, Ann Payne, herself a former women’s college basketball.
