Join Al Myatt and Kevin Monroe for Episode 6 of Pirate Talk, a podcast devoted to year-round coverage of topics of interest to East Carolina fans. In this episode, they dive into the state of affairs with the football program heading into the season opener at Alabama.
Myatt and Monroe wrap a discussion about the Sept. 5 non-conference clash in Tuscaloosa around a historical reflection on the Pirates’ 23-22 loss the Crimson Tide in 1998. Monroe, a star defensive back for the Pirates during the Steve Logan coaching era, recalls that game as an opportunity lost due to breakdowns in the kicking game and at least one controversial call that was pivotal in the outcome.
As the days tick down to the first contest between the teams since that meeting 28 years ago, both programs are conducting competitions to determine who their quarterbacks will be. Myatt and Monroe note how depth appears to be an ECU strength and provide an overall appraisal of the Pirates’ personnel and experience.
Pirate Talk is periodically podcast when Myatt and Monroe determine that news or events warrant discussion. During the football season, they analyze the Pirates and their opponent ahead of kickoff each week on the Bonesville Pregame Show. Seasoned by five decades of experience as a sports journalist, Myatt has been an anchor columnist for Bonesville since the site’s founding in 2001. Monroe, color analyst for the Pirate Sports Network and a former ECU player, is contributing to Bonesville for the 19th straight year.
