BOCA RATON, FL — East Carolina won its first road series of the season with a 6-1 victory at Florida Atlantic on Friday night.
The Pirates followed up on a 7-5 triumph over the Owls on Thursday night to improve to 32-21-1 overall and 16-10 in the league.
Left-hander Ethan Norby (6-3) went six and one-third innings for the win. He allowed four hits and one run (earned) with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
“Norby was really good,” said ECU coach Cliff Godwin on the Pirate radio network. “We had six 2-out RBIs. … We had a lot of quality at-bats.
“We played good baseball — offensively, on the mound and defensively.”
FAU (28-26, 12-14) scored first on an RBI single by Kyle Boylston in the third.
ECU pulled even in the fourth as a double by Brayden Bachman brought in Davin Whitaker.
The Pirates went ahead on a 2-run single through the left side by Colby Wallace in the fifth. Whitaker added an RBI single in the fifth for a 4-1 ECU lead.
Pinch hitter Michael Kalinich singled to right in the fifth to score Wallace and put the Pirates on top, 5-1.
ECU added a run in the ninth on an RBI double by Kalinich.
Ethan Rose followed Norby to the mound and pitched one inning. He yielded one hit and one walk.
Joe Webb went the last one and two-thirds innings. He surrendered one hit and struck out four.
Reilly Witmer (0-1) was charged with the loss for FAU.
The Pirates had an 11-6 lead in hits. Wallace went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Kalinich had two hits and drove in a pair. Whitaker had two hits and an RBI.
ECU looks to sweep the Owls on Saturday at 1 p.m. (ESPN+).
