East Carolina takes a 4-game winning streak to N.C. State on Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. start (ACC Network Extra).

The streak has been a productive offensively for ECU, which has outscored its opponents, 54-18, with three of the four games shortened on the 10-run rule.

The Pirates won, 19-9, in seven innings at Old Dominion on Tuesday and then swept an American Conference series at home against South Florida.

ECU boosted its team batting average to .305 against the Bulls. Opponents are hitting .249 against the Pirates.

Tie atop American standings

ECU’s 3-0 weekend in league play pushed the Pirates into a tie for first in the American Conference standings with Texas San Antonio and Alabama Birmingham.

All three have 12-6 league records.

ECU heads to Memphis (16-26, 8-10 American) for three games this weekend.  The Tigers are tied for fifth with Florida Atlantic, Tulane and Rice.

UAB will have a weekend series at Rice (25-19, 8-10) and USTA will be hosting Wichita State (26-19, 10-8), which is holding down fourth place.

Tuesday’s probables

Redshirt junior right-hander Julien Peissel is the scheduled starter on the mound for the Wolfpack (27-16). Peissel is a transfer from UNC-Greensboro who did not see action in 2025.

Peissel is 0-1 in four appearances with one start this season. His earned run average is  18.00.

Left-handed senior Nick Moran (1-0, 5.29), who began his college career at Liberty, is the scheduled starter for the Pirates.

Moran will face a State team that is hitting .304.

Last meeting

The Wolfpack was a 10-3 winner over ECU in Greenville on April 14 as Ty Head and Luke Nixon homered in support of five freshmen pitchers, who limited the Pirates to five hits.

The outcome put State in position for its first 2-game sweep in the in-state series since 2022. The Pack leads the overall series, 72-44,

ECU’s last win in Raleigh was, 12-4, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

The Pirates won the first meeting, 5-4, in 1957.

State is 20-7 at home this season. ECU is 6-8-1 on the road.

Ratings, rankings, projections

ECU got one vote in this week’s USA Today/Coaches poll.

The Pirates are No. 30 in the Ratings Power Index (RPI). UAB is No 39, UTSA is No. 40 and N.C. State is No. 48.

Baseball America’s recent projection had the Pirates as a three seed in the Tuscaloosa regional. That was prior to ECU’s current winning streak.

Chad Tracy managing Red Sox

Two of East Carolina Coach Cliff Godwin’s former Pirate teammates are managing in the major leagues.

Clayton McCullough is the skipper of the Miami Marlins.

With Boston’s recent shakeup, Chad Tracy was brought up from Triple-A Worcester as interim manager of the Red Sox.

Tracy, hitting from the left side, had a towering home run off the roof of a tobacco warehouse beyond right field at Grainger Stadium in Kinston in the 2001 Super Regional against Tennessee.

It would be interesting to get Godwin’s comparison to the deep shot (457 feet) by Austin Irby in the USF series.

American honors

ECU outfielder Jack Herring has been named American Conference Player of the Week and Joe Webb is the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

Herring was 9-for-15 for the week with 11 RBIs. He is hitting .377 for the season with eight home runs.

Webb made two appearances on consecutive days in the South Florida series without allowing a run. He had 13 strikeouts in seven and two-thirds innings.

He went a career high five innings Sunday and finished a 12-2 win in eight innings to save some bullpen arms going forward.
