GREENVILLE — East Carolina played well in all phases in a 11-0 win over Old Dominion in seven innings on Tuesday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The game ended on the mercy rule with a 2-run homer by Carlos Jacome with two out in the seventh.
The Pirates (9-7-1) scored in every inning, did not commit an error and two pitchers combined for a 2-hit shutout, starter Ryan Towers and Gavin Marley.
Towers went four innings. He yielded two hits with one walk. Marley pitched the last three innings with no hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
ECU had 10 hits. Jack Herring went 2-for-2, drew two walks and had three RBIs. Austin Irby was 2-for-4 with two runs driven in.
The Pirates took a 2-0 lead with two out in the bottom of the first as Herring singled through the left side of the infield to bring in Matthew Lashley and Grady Lanahan.
A wild pitch with the bases-loaded allowed Jeff Sabater to score for a 3-0 ECU advantage in the second.
Herring scored from third on a fielder’s choice by Sabater in the fourth as the Pirates went up, 4-0.
ECU scored three runs in the fourth as Irby had a 2-run single and Herring singled in a run.
The margin swelled to 8-0 in the fifth with a run-scoring double by Walker Barron. A sacrifice fly by Alex Bouche made it 9-0 in the sixth.
The Monarchs fell to 8-7.
The Pirates play at William & Mary (5-9) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
