GREENVILLE — Jordan Riley scored 31 points with 11 rebounds as East Carolina continued its bid for an American Conference tournament berth with an 84-68 win over Memphis in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Sunday.

Corey Caulker also had a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists as the Pirates improved to 11-18 overall and 6-10 in league play going into a home game on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Tulsa (23-6, 11-5). The matchup will be shown on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

The Golden Hurricane last played on Feb. 25, a 90-56 win at Tulane, and will be coming to Greenville after a week off.

ECU fell behind, 5-0, on Sunday. The Tigers (12-17, 7-9) led 16-15 when the Pirates embarked on a 14-3 run to go up 29-19 with 9:13 left in the first half on a stepback jumper by Riley.

The short list of Player of the Year candidates in the American includes Riley.

“The best part about it is that he’s not concerned about that,” said Pirates coach Mike Schwartz on ESPN+. “He wants to give us a chance to stay in the fight to make the conference tournament.”

The top 10 in the league standings will make the event in Birmingham, which is coming up March 11-15. The Tigers and Temple currently are tied for ninth with seven league wins each.

Riley’s performance was a fitting adieu in his final outing in Minges Coliseum on Senior Day. Senior teammates Luke Davis, Giovanni Emejuru and Demitri Gardner also bowed out victorious before the home crowd of 4,195.

The Pirates shot well, making 30 of 56 field goal attempts for 53.6 percent. That included nine of 18 from beyond the arc for 50 percent. ECU was 15 of 20 at the line for 75 percent.

Eli DeLaurier was five of 10 from the floor in scoring 11 points. Luke Davis and Reid Cason had eight points each. Demetri Gardner netted six and Giovanni Emejuru added four points.

Julius Thedford had 16 points for Memphis, Dug McDaniel scored 15 and Sincere Parker finished with 12.
