FAYETTEVILLE — East Carolina evened its record going into the Keith LeClair Classic at 4-4-1 with an 8-7 win over College of Charleston at Segra Stadium on Wednesday night
The Cougars tied the score at 7 on a grand slam by Jacob Amman in the top of the eighth.
The Pirates got the winning run on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Grady Lanahan in the bottom of the eighth.
ECU trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the second when RBI singles by Walker Barron and Matthew Lashley as well as a sacrifice fly by Braden Burress provided a 3-1 lead.
Austin Irby had a run-scoring single for the Pirates in the fifth.
An error on a sacrifice bunt by Burress allowed a run and Lanahan drove in a pair with a single to center for a 7-1 ECU lead in the sixth.
Landon Penfield had a solo homer for the Cougars (3-6) in the seventh.
The Pirates outhit Charleston, 12-7, as Lashley went 3-for-4. Jack Herring, Irby and Barron had two hits each.
Nick Moran had a dominant relief stint as he allowed just one hit and no runs over four and two-thirds innings with no walks and three strikeouts for ECU.
Sean Jenkins got the last four outs for the Pirates.
ECU takes on Rutgers (4-3) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Clark LeClair Stadium in its opening game of the LeClair Classic.
