CHAPEL HILL — East Carolina and North Carolina could not finish the rubber game of their nonconference series on Sunday due to weather conditions.

The contest went into a rain delay after five innings with the score tied at 3. Play was suspended for over two hours before the decision was made not to resume play.

The game will not be completed and will be recorded as a 3-3 tie.

The Pirates (3-4-1) never trailed, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI double off the right field fence by Jack Herring.

UNC (6-1-1) tied the score in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Owen Hull.

ECU took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on Jack Vogele’s bases-loaded single to center. All three of the Pirates’ runs were scored on two-out hits.

The hosts tied the score in the fifth as Gavin Gallaher and Erik Paulsen had RBI singles off ECU reliever Gavin Marley.

Colby Weber started for the Pirates and went four and one-third innings. He allowed three hits, two runs (both earned), with two walks and two strikeouts.

Ethan Rose came in to get the last two outs in the fifth.

ECU had a 6-5 lead in hits. Braden Burress was 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot to lift his average to .500. Vogele was 2-for-3.

The matchup drew a crowd of 3,2o0.

The Pirates return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with a game against College of Charleston at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville.  The Cougars were 3-5 going into a home game with Air Force on Monday.
