ECU coach Mike Schwartz lamented 10 missed free throws as the Pirates went 15 of 25 at the line and a lack of backcourt scoring in his remarks on the ECU radio network.
The Pirates took a 2-0 lead on the game’s first possession as Reid Cason dunked on Isaiah Mbeng’s assist. The Bulls answered with a 3-pointer from Josh Omojafo and were on top the rest of the way.
The biggest deficit for ECU was 20 points at 63-43 with 12:35 to go.
Omojafo paced the hosts with 18 points. Izaiyah Nelson and Wes Enis scored 14 each. C. J. Brown netted 12 points and Devin Haid had 11 for USF.
ECU had a higher overall field goal percentage as the Pirates made 25 of 61 for 41 percent while the Bulls were 25 of 65 for 38.5 percent.
The Bulls offset that disparity by hitting 12 of 31 threes (38.7 percent) and 20 of 26 free throws, 76.9 percent. ECU was six of 21 from beyond the arc for 28.6 percent.
USF had a 41-40 rebounding edge and fewer turnovers, 7-11.
