GREENVILLE — East Carolina overcame an early deficit to end a 4-game losing streak with a 68-56 nonconference win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday night in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

Jodan Riley led the Pirates (3-5) with 18 points on five of nine field goal shooting, including two of three from behind the arc and he was six for six on free throws. Riley had five assists and blocked two shots.

“What a stat line,” said ECU coach Mike Schwartz on the Pirate radio network. “At times, I thought we had three point guards out there.”

ECU came into the game hitting just 24 percent of its 3-pointers but made eight of 17 against the Hawks (4-7) for 47.1 percent.

The visitors got out to a 10-1 lead. The Pirates went ahead to stay, at 22-21, on a second chance layup by Vito Perkovic with 4:02 left in the first half. ECU led by as many as 20 points in the second half.

Isaiah Mbeng hit five of six from the floor and had 14 points in 20 minutes for the Pirates. Corey Caulker added 12 points.

Luke Davis grabbed eight rebounds as ECU had a 28-22 rebounding advantage. The hosts had fewer turnovers, 10-11.

Dorion Staples and Michael Teal had 10 points each for UMES.

The Pirates host UNC-Greensboro (1-8) on Saturday at 4 p.m. (ESPN+).
