FORT MYERS, FL —Michigan State remained unbeaten on Tuesday with an 89-56 win over East Carolina at Suncoast Arena.

Jaxon Kohler led the Spartans (6-0) with 16 points on 6 of 6 field goal shooting, including 4 of 4 on threes in 21 minutes.

The Pirates (2-4) committed 24 turnovers.

“That’s an elite defensive team, a national-championship contending basketball team,” said ECU coach Mike Schwartz on the Pirate radio network. “The difference is the length on the perimeter, the length in the gaps, the length and the strength.

“That’s what caused the majority of the turnovers. … They were focused on collapsing on Jordan (Riley) and Gio (Emejuru).”

Riley managed a team-high 13 points on 4 of 12 shooting. Emejuru was limited to nine points, going 3 of 10 from the floor with a team-high eight rebounds,

Corey Caulker hit 4 of 8 for ECU for nine points. Reid Cason hit all five of his free throws and had nine points.

Michigan State had a 38-34 rebounding advantage. The Spartans made 34 of 67 from the floor for 50.7 percent, including 13 o 28 from behind the arc for 46.4 percent.

The Pirates will look to regroup for a matchup with St. Bonaventura on Thursday at noon (Fox Sports 1) in Fort Myers.
