GREENVILLE — The wrong band of pirates emerged victorious from the hoops cove of Minges Coliseum on Friday night.

The Buccaneers of Charleston Southern beat East Carolina from behind the arc decidedly— and on the scoreboard, 77-65.

The  Bucs dropped 15 of 34 from long range for 44 percent while the Pirates were limited to two of 11 on threes for 18 percent.

“They hit some big ones at some crucial moments,” said ECU coach Mike Schwartz on the Pirates radio network of the visitors’ outside shooting.

ECU was focused on performing on the interior. The Pirates had a 44-20 lead in points in the paint and held a 37-31 rebounding advantage.

ECU trailed, 51-48, with 13:01 left on a follow hook shot by Luke Davis when a 3-pointer by A’lahn Sumler sparked a 7-0 CSU run.

The Bucs led by 14 points twice in the last two minutes.

Brycen Blaine hit 4 of 8 from distance to lead all scorers with 23 points. The 6-5 guard also claimed 12 rebounds for CSU (4-3). Luke Williams added 13 points and six assists for the Bucs.

Giovanni Emejuru paced the Pirates (2-3) with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Riley had 15 points and Tybo Bailey added 12 as ECU sustained its first home loss of the season.

The Pirates will be on the road for the Fort Myers Tip-Off, taking on No. 17 Michigan State (5-0) on Tuesday at 1 p.m. (Fox Sports 2).
