RICHMOND — A 15-0 run gave Richmond a working margin in an 87-72 nonconference win over visiting East Carolina on Saturday night.

The Pirates had an 11-7 lead with 13:11 left in the first half but didn’t score again until 8:07 was showing. In the meantime, the Spiders had put up 15 unanswered points for a 22-11 advantage.

Richmond (2-0) was on top, 42-30, at the half.

The biggest lead for the hosts was 21 points, 79-58, with 5:29 to go.

Jonathan Beagle led Richmond with 15 points, hitting nine of 11 free throws. Aiden Argabright had 14 points in the win and Jaden Daughtry added 13.

ECU (1-1) was paced by Giovanni Emejuru, who had 20 points and 13 rebounds, both game highs. Jordan Riley recorded 18 points and six rebounds for the Pirates.

The Spiders made 26 of 50 field goal attempts, 52 percent and held a 30-27 rebounding advantage.

ECU committed 13 turnovers to 10 for Richmond.

The Pirates return to action against Elizabeth City State at home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
