East Carolina’s Nick Mazzie was tabbed the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week and quarterback Katin Houser was named honorable mention, the league office announced Monday. Their performances helped ECU capture a 41-27 victory over Tulsa, marking the Pirates’ second conference win this season.

Mazzie scored a career-high 11 points, successfully making two field goals and five PATs, maintaining a perfect 18-for-18 PAT record this season. He started the game with a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter and extended ECU’s lead to 34-24 with a 32-yard field goal in the fourth.

Houser threw for 300 yards, his fifth career 300-yard game, completing 21 of 38 passes with two touchdowns. The California native contributed three total touchdowns, including passing scores of 66 and 63 yards to Anthony Smith and a two-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. He completed four passes of 15+ yards (66, 30, 63, 18), rushed for 22 yards, and recorded his 10th career rushing touchdown.

The Pirates, now in their second bye week, will return to action on Saturday, November 1 at Temple.
