TAMPA — South Florida had a dominant performance in a 10-0 American Athletic Conference win in seven innings over East Carolina on Friday night to even the series at 1-1.
The Pirates (29-24, 13-13 AAC) were limited to two hits as USF (28-23, 15-11 AAC) had 13 hits in ending a 5-game losing streak at home that included ECU’s 5-1 win on Thursday night.
Pirates coach Cliff Godwin wasn’t around due to an ejection when the Bulls scored twice in the seventh on a 2-run single by Ryan Pruitt to end the matchup on the mercy rule.
The hosts never trailed after a 3-run first that included a run-scoring single by Matt Rose and a 2-run double by Marcus Brodil off ECU starter Jake Hunter (2-3).
Brodil had a solo homer in a 3-run fourth off Sean Jenkins, who went four and one-third innings.
Rose had a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Lance Trippel stole home for an 8-0 lead.
Corey Braun started and went two and two-thirds innings for the Bulls in improving to 8-2.
The last game of the regular seas0n will decide the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
