GREENVILLE — Texas-San Antonio clinched the American Athletic Conference regular season championship with an 8-5 win at East Carolina on Friday night.

The Pirates had won the previous five AAC regular season titles.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.

ECU (27-22, 11-11 AAC) rallied from an 8-1 deficit with four runs in the eighth inning.

The Pirates had a 1-0 lead on an RBI single down the right field line by Dixon Williams that brought in Braden Burress in the third.

Ethan Norby (6-5) held the Roadrunners (38-10, 19-3 AAC) scoreless until a 2-run homer by James Taussig in a 4-run fifth for the visitors. Andrew Stucky had an RBI single, and a run came in on a fielder’s choice.

UTSA added a run in the sixth when Caden Miller’s single brought in Diego Diaz for a 5-1 lead.

Stucky’s 3-run double in the eighth extended the lead to 8-1.

Two-run doubles by Jack Herring and John Collins in the eighth reduced the margin to 8-5.

Zach Royse (8-4) went six and two-thirds innings with eight strikeouts for the win. Robert Orioski went two and one-third innings with three whiffs for his sixth save.

ECU led, 11-9, in hits as Williams and Herring had two each.
